Set up AyoCheck on WhatsApp, step by step

This guide is for families in Australia using WhatsApp. It explains the first setup, what each field means, how to share invite links, and how notifications escalate only when something is wrong.

You do not need to install a new app for the elder. Everything starts from WhatsApp, and contacts are only notified on exceptions.

Step 1

Create the account owner first

The account owner is the main family manager. This person can edit settings, add emergency contacts, resend invite links, and review whether the elder is already linked.

Name

Use the real name of the person managing the setup.

Phone number

This number is used for the account owner’s own WhatsApp linking flow.

Language

This controls the language shown in settings and messages sent to this person.

Account owner profile

Name: Emily Carter
Phone: +61 412 345 678
Language: English
Role: Account owner + 1st emergency contact
Step 2

Add the elder and relationship

Next, add the elder you want to check on. This creates the care recipient profile and prepares a dedicated invite link for their WhatsApp account.

Loved one name

This is the elder who will receive the daily check-ins.

Phone number

Use the number connected to the elder’s WhatsApp account.

Relationship

This helps the family identify who is being managed, for example mum, dad, aunt, or grandparent.

AyoCheck

Loved one profile

Loved one: Margaret Lee
Phone: +61 478 456 789
Relationship: Mum
Status: Invite not sent yet
Step 3

Set the check-in schedule and exception timing

Choose when the elder should receive their check-ins and how long AyoCheck should wait before starting the alert flow.

Morning check-in

The first daily message time, for example 8:30 AM.

Evening check-in

Optional second daily message time, for example 8:30 PM.

No reply timeout

Choose 15, 30, or 60 minutes before AyoCheck starts notifying contacts in order.

Check-in schedule

Morning: 08:30
Evening: 20:30
If no reply: start alerts after 15 minutes
Safe replies do not notify contacts
Step 4

Add up to three emergency contacts in order

Emergency contacts are configured in the settings page, not the first registration screen. They are notified one by one, not all at once.

1st contact

Usually the main family member. This person is often also the account owner.

2nd contact

Only notified if the first contact does not confirm or reply.

3rd contact

Used as the final fallback when earlier contacts do not respond.

AyoCheck

Emergency contacts

1. Emily Carter - Daughter - account owner
2. Daniel Lee - Son
3. Chloe Tan - Family friend
Escalation: 15 min -> 30 min -> 60 min
Step 5

Copy and share each invite link

Each person gets their own dedicated invite link. You can share it directly through WhatsApp or copy the invite text and paste it manually.

Invite the elder

Send the elder’s invite link to their own WhatsApp so they can complete linking.

Invite each contact separately

Do not reuse one person’s invite link for someone else.

What the message includes

AyoCheck automatically includes the elder’s name, contact order, delay timing, and the unique link.

AyoCheck

Share invite

Share directly to WhatsApp
Or copy the invite text first
Send the dedicated link to Margaret Lee
Repeat for every emergency contact
Step 6

What happens after everyone is linked

Once the elder is linked, they begin receiving daily WhatsApp check-ins. Emergency contacts remain quiet unless there is no reply or a help request.

Safe day

The elder replies and the day is recorded as safe. No emergency contact is notified.

No reply

AyoCheck waits for the chosen timeout, then alerts contacts in sequence.

Need help

If the elder taps the help button, the alert flow begins immediately.

AyoCheck

After linking

Safe reply: no one else is notified
Need help: notify the 1st contact immediately
If still unconfirmed, escalate to the next contact
Up to 3 emergency contacts in total
